PlayStation Plus Plans: Essential, Extra and Premium, and How to Pay with a PSN Gift Card

Updated October 28, 2026.

PlayStation Plus has three plans: Essential, Extra and Premium. Each one includes everything in the plan below it. You can pay for it with funds in your PlayStation Store wallet, and a PlayStation Store gift card is one way to fill that wallet. The card must match the region of your account. TopPlayer.gg does not sell PlayStation Plus codes: we sell US PlayStation Network cards.

What are the PlayStation Plus plans and what does each include?

There are three plans. On 28 October 2026, playstation.com/en-us lists them like this:

PlanWhat it includes
EssentialMonthly Games, Online Multiplayer, Exclusive Discounts, Exclusive Content, Cloud Storage and Share Play
ExtraEverything in Essential, plus the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics
PremiumEverything in Extra, plus the Classics Catalog, Game Trials, Cloud Streaming and the Sony Pictures Catalog

Two notes from the same page. Cloud Streaming "Excludes overseas territories" and needs a minimum internet speed of 5mbps (15 mbps for 1080p). And for Monthly Games and the Game Catalog: "From January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently." Source: PlayStation Plus.

How much does PlayStation Plus cost in the US?

On 28 October 2026, playstation.com/en-us lists these US prices:

Plan1 month3 months12 months
Essential$10.99$27.99$79.99
Extra$16.99$43.99$134.99
Premium$19.99$54.99$159.99

The subscription continues until you cancel it, and PlayStation's terms say a renewal is charged at "the then current regular PlayStation Store price". So the price you pay later can differ from the one above. Sources: PlayStation Plus and PS Plus Usage Terms.

Can I pay for PlayStation Plus with wallet funds?

Yes, with one catch. PlayStation's Terms of Service say: "If you have funds in your PlayStation Store Wallet, you may use those funds to complete a purchase or renew a subscription."

The catch: PlayStation's wallet page says "If you're buying a subscription with wallet funds, you may still be required to add a payment method to your account." So a card or other payment method may be needed on the account, even if your wallet pays.

What happens at renewal. If the wallet is short when a recurring payment is due, PlayStation's terms say "the balance will be automatically funded from the default payment method on record". So keep enough in the wallet to cover the renewal, or the difference is charged to your default payment method. How do I add a PlayStation gift card to my wallet?

Redeem the code in the PlayStation Store. PlayStation says: "You can also add funds to your wallet using a PlayStation™Store gift card (voucher code)." The steps:

  • Web: PlayStation Store, select your profile at the top, choose Redeem Code, enter the 12-digit code and select Continue.
  • PS5: PlayStation Store, press the triangle button, then … (More) and Redeem Code. Enter the 12-digit code and select Redeem.
  • PS4: PlayStation Store, scroll to the bottom of the sidebar and select Redeem Codes. Enter the 12-digit code, select Continue, then Confirm or Yes.

Each code works once: "You can only use a voucher code once." Your wallet also has a maximum balance, which PlayStation sets, and a card that would push it over the limit can't be applied until you spend some funds. Sources: PlayStation: redeem a voucher code, PlayStation: voucher code problems and PlayStation Terms of Service.

Does the PSN card have to match my account's region?

Yes. PlayStation says: "The voucher code needs to be for the same region as your account." Its Terms of Service add that the wallet "will only accept prepaid cards with currency value from the same country as the one designated for your Account."

You can't fix a mismatch by changing the account: "it's not possible to change the region of an account." Funds can't be moved either: "It's not possible to transfer funds or content between accounts." So a US card is for a US PlayStation account only. See our guide to gift cards by region before you buy.

PlayStation's US terms also say PlayStation Plus "is only available to legal U.S. and Canadian residents". Sources: PlayStation: redeem a voucher code, PlayStation: voucher code problems, PlayStation Terms of Service and PS Plus Usage Terms.

How do I upgrade, downgrade or cancel PlayStation Plus?

You change the plan in your account settings, and you can cancel at any time. Here is what PlayStation documents:

  • Upgrade: "When you upgrade you are charged a pro-rated fee to level up the time remaining". On the web: sign in to Account Management, select Subscription, select your PlayStation Plus subscription, choose Change Plan, then pick a new plan and payment frequency.
  • Downgrade: "the downgrade will take place on your next payment date", and then you lose the benefits exclusive to your previous plan.
  • Stacked subscriptions: if you bought several, "you'll need to upgrade all of your subscription time at once".
  • Cancel: "You can cancel your subscription at any time." Access continues until the paid period ends, but "you won't receive a refund for payments already made."
