WoW Midnight Editions: Base vs Heroic vs Epic, and Which One to Buy

Updated October 28, 2026.

World of Warcraft: Midnight comes in three editions: Base, Heroic and Epic. Each one includes the Midnight expansion, The War Within and an Enhanced Level 80 Character Boost. Heroic adds a mount and a transmog set. Epic adds more cosmetics and 30 days of game time. You still need a subscription or game time to play, except for the 30 days Epic includes: Blizzard says Midnight "Requires World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time."

What does each Midnight edition include?

Each edition includes everything in the one below it. This is Blizzard's comparison table from its Midnight pre-purchase announcement:

Blizzard's shop page for Midnight describes the same split: Heroic "Includes everything in the Base Edition", and Epic "Includes everything in the Heroic Edition". The only currency in the table is Trader’s Tender. Blizzard's comparison does not list Hearthsteel in any edition.

Beta access and early access were perks for the time before launch. Blizzard announced that Midnight was "launching worldwide on March 2, 2026, at 3:00 pm PST", and its Midnight page now says "Midnight is now live." So today the practical difference with Epic is the cosmetics, the decor and the game time. Source: Blizzard: Midnight.

Do I need a subscription or game time on top of Midnight?

Yes, with one exception. Blizzard's Midnight page says: "Requires World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time." An edition gives you access to the expansion, but you still need an active subscription or game time to log in and play.

The exception is the Epic Edition, which includes 30 days of game time. After those 30 days you need a subscription or more game time. Base and Heroic include none.

For more time without a recurring charge, you can add a WoW 60-day game time card. The code is region-locked, so buy the card for the region of your WoW account. Our WoW game time guide explains US vs EU and how to redeem it.

Which Midnight edition should I buy?

If you…BuyWhy
want to play Midnight and nothing elseBaseIt has the expansion, The War Within, the level 80 boost and Housing access.
want a flying mount and a transmog set as wellHeroicIt adds the Lightwing Dragonhawk, the Lightstrider Raiment and 500 more Trader’s Tender than Base.
have no active game time, or want every cosmetic and the decorEpicIt is the only edition with 30 days of game time, plus the pets, the other mounts and the Housing Pack.

If you already own The War Within, Blizzard says it "will not be re-granted", so you do not get a second copy. All three editions are Battle.net gifts here, so the same delivery rules apply to each. See below.

Can I upgrade to a higher edition later?

Yes, Blizzard sells upgrades to the Heroic and Epic editions. Blizzard publishes no step-by-step guide, so the buying steps are not covered here. The rule it does publish is this: "Upgrading to the Heroic or Epic Edition will not re-grant the Character Boost or any in-game items previously unlocked on your WoW account."

  • You do not get the same items twice. Anything you already unlocked, including the boost, is not granted again.
  • Trader’s Tender is granted once per edition. Blizzard says it is granted only once per Battle.net account and region, on the first purchase of each edition, up to 2,000 from Epic.
  • Buying Epic on a second WoW account in the same region, under one Battle.net account, grants the Housing decor again. The boost still only works on the WoW account it was purchased for.

We have not verified whether a gift from our shop can be used as an upgrade on an account that already owns a lower edition. If that is your plan, ask support before you buy. Source: Blizzard: Midnight.

How do I get a Midnight edition from TopPlayer.gg?

All three editions are sold as Battle.net gifts, not keys. After you pay, you give us your BattleTag, accept our friend requests and wait for Battle.net's friendship period to pass. Then you accept the gift in the Battle.net app. The product pages state 72 to 96 hours, counted from when you accept our friend request.

Our gifts are not region-locked, so they work for World of Warcraft accounts in the Americas and in Europe. The full steps are in our Battle.net gifts guide. Browse the rest of the range in Battle.net keys and gifts.

Before the gift is sent, you can ask for a full refund by opening a ticket. Once it is in your Battle.net account it can't be refunded. See our refund policy, or ask support.

Does Midnight include the next expansion?

No. Blizzard says that purchase of Midnight "does not include access to future expansions". The next chapter, The Last Titan, was named at BlizzCon 2026, and Blizzard says more will be revealed "early next year". Source: Blizzard: BlizzCon 2026 round-up.
