How software licences work
A Windows key is entered under Settings, System, Activation. An Office key is redeemed at the Microsoft account page for your product, which then links the licence to that account so it survives a reinstall.
Read the product page before buying: editions matter. Home and Pro are not interchangeable, and a key for one version of Office will not activate another. The page states exactly which edition and which version each key covers.
Software keys are delivered instantly to your account and to your registered email. As with game keys, a revealed code cannot be returned, so check the edition first. If a key does not activate, contact support within 30 days of purchase.
