Game Key Regions Explained: Global, Europe, Americas and More

Updated October 1, 2026.

A game key's region says where the code can be used. The region of the code has to be compatible with the account and the platform where you want to redeem it. Every TopPlayer.gg product page states the region, so read it before you pay and before you reveal the key.

What does it mean when a key has a region?

It means the code is meant for accounts of a certain region, and the platform may refuse it on any other account. Our refund policy says it plainly: "Every product page states the region of the key."

Three things to keep in mind:

  • The region that counts is the one on your account, not the country you are in right now. Living in a country does not automatically change the region registered on an account.
  • If the product page names a specific region or country, don't swap it for your current location.
  • "Global" is a label, not a guarantee. Check the platform and the product page together before you buy.

Which region labels does TopPlayer.gg use?

These are the labels you can see on a product page:

LabelWhere you may see it
GlobalProducts labelled as global
EuropeProducts for Europe
North AmericaProducts for North America
AmericasBattle.net products (see the note below)
Latin AmericaProducts for Latin America
AsiaProducts for Asia
Russia/CISProducts for Russia/CIS

The label is the region of the product. The product page also shows the platform and the product type, so read all three.

Why does Battle.net say "Americas"? On our store, Battle.net products with the region value "North America" are labelled "Americas". The reason is the World of Warcraft time card: the US card works across the whole Americas region, including Latin America. More on that below.

How do I check my account's region?

Check it on the platform itself, before you buy.

Steam. Open Account details in Steam to see the store country. Steam explains how the country and currency are set in its Steam Store Country help page, and it describes its regional limits in Region Restrictions on Steam.

PlayStation. On the web:

  1. Sign in to Account Management.
  2. Select Your Information and Edit your Residential Address.
  3. Your country/region appears at the bottom.

In the PlayStation App, open the Play screen, select the Settings icon, scroll to Account Information, and select Edit under Residential Address.

PlayStation says that "voucher codes and your account's country/region must match to be activated successfully", and that the country/region of an account cannot be changed after it is created. Source: PlayStation: check your account country/region.

Battle.net. For Battle.net, the region rules depend on the product. Battle.net gifts are global. World of Warcraft game time codes are regional. See the sections below. If you are not sure which region your World of Warcraft account is on, ask support before you buy.

Other platforms. We don't have a checked step-by-step for the other platforms. Check the region in the platform's own account settings, or ask support.

Is a game key different from a gift card or balance code?

Yes. A game key adds a licence for a game. A gift card or balance code adds money to a wallet. They are different products and can have different restrictions.

  • Steam: a wallet code is converted to the currency of the Steam Wallet when you redeem it. That does not mean every code works on every account or currency, so check the region on the product page and Steam's restrictions.
  • PlayStation and Xbox: the official steps tell you to make sure the country of your account matches the gift card's region or currency.

For the redeem steps of each platform, see How to redeem a game key.

What happens if the region doesn't match?

If the key you received does not match the region shown at the time of purchase, it counts as "not as described". It is refundable even if you already tried to redeem it.

Our refund policy sets the rest:

SituationRefund?
Key not revealed, faulty or not as described (including a region that does not match the product page)May be eligible
Region received does not match the region on the product pageRefundable, even if you tried to redeem it
Key revealed or activated, and nothing is wrong with itGenerally not refundable

Contact support within 30 days of purchase, with your order number. You can open a ticket from the order in your account.

"Revealing the key on your account is the point of no return", so check the platform and region on the product page before you reveal it.

Are Battle.net gifts region-locked?

No. Battle.net gifts are global: only 2 or 3 countries can't receive them. Gifts for World of Warcraft: Midnight also reach accounts in Europe.

A gift is not a key. We send it to your BattleTag from an account whose name starts with TP, usually 72 to 96 hours after you accept the friend request. Pre-purchases work the same way. Read the full guide: How Battle.net gifts work.

Is World of Warcraft game time region-locked?

Yes. WoW game time codes are sold by region:

CardRegion it covers
USThe whole Americas region, including Latin America
EUEurope

Buy the card for the region of your World of Warcraft account. Details and links: WoW 60-day game time: US vs EU.

Codes for StarCraft, Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction are global.

What should I check before I buy?

  1. Platform. Is the product for the platform where you will play (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Battle.net and so on)?
  2. Product type. Is it a key, a gift, an account or a gift card? A gift card adds funds, not a game.
  3. Region label. Does it match your account's region? For PlayStation, check the country in Account Management.
  4. Currency or country, for gift cards. It should match your account.
  5. Xbox / PC keys. These work on Windows through the Microsoft Store.
  6. Still unsure? Ask support before paying, and don't reveal the key until you are sure.

FAQ

Are your keys region-locked?

Each product page specifies the region. Check it before you buy so it matches your account. See the FAQ for short answers.

What does "Global" mean?

It is the label for products not tied to one region. Even so, check the platform and the product page together before you buy, and ask support if you are unsure.

Why does a Battle.net product say "Americas"?

Because the region value "North America" is shown as "Americas" on Battle.net products. The US World of Warcraft time card covers the whole Americas region, including Latin America.

Does living in a country change my account's region?

No. The region registered on the account is what counts. Check it on the platform, for example in Steam's Account details or PlayStation's Account Management.

I got a key from a different region than the product page. Can I get a refund?

Yes. A region that does not match the product page counts as "not as described" and is refundable even if you already tried to redeem it. Contact support within 30 days of purchase.

Can I get a refund if I already revealed the key?

Generally not. A revealed or activated key is consumable, so check the platform and region first. The exception is a key that doesn't match its description, such as a wrong region.

Do Battle.net gifts depend on region?

No, they are global. Only 2 or 3 countries can't receive them. World of Warcraft game time codes, however, are regional.

Which WoW game time card should I buy from Latin America?

The US card, which covers the whole Americas region, including Latin America. The EU card is for Europe.
